About Ipipiri

The Name Ipipiri (e-pip-e-rey) is first known to be recorded in 1824 as part of Louis Isidore Duperrey’s expedition to the Pacific

Here, the cartographer documented the Maori name Ipipiri to describe a cluster of islands within the region that Captain James Cook had earlier named ‘the Bay of Islands’. The name Ipipiri is defined as meaning “many places,” and was chosen by Fullers GreatSights after it was suggested by local iwi during consultation over suitable names.

    Ipipiri Environmental Statement

Fullers GreatSights is privileged to operate in this wonderful natural environment – The Bay of Islands. As a company we endeavor to tread as lightly as possible on our natural surroundings.

We have a team of employees (The Green Team) who engage regularly to work on projects and research how we can improve our sustainability.

At a basic level we ensure that all products used aboard Ipipiri are as environmentally friendly as possible. We strive to reduce waste from the vessel and recycle as much as we can.

The team has been involved in setting up the Tree Planting activity offered aboard Ipipiri. This project engages our customers in the replanting of native trees on Waewaetoria Island. The activity provides employment for a local indigenous population that is remote and struggles with high unemployment. The trees are grown in recycled and biodegradable water bottles sold aboard Ipipiri and other vessels in our fleet. We are very proud of this project.

Fullers GreatSights Bay of Islands is a key partner in the not for profit organization - Guardians of the Bay of Islands Inc. who work with local government, land owners and local iwi to eradicate pests and promote the return of native birdlife, plants and native trees onto many of the 144 islands in the Bay. http://www.boiguardians.co.nz/
